When I Grow Up

The kids are busy with school and we are finally falling into a routine for this year. Things have been crazy at this house, but I think we are on the right track! ;)

Okay, now please mind the mess on Joshua's shirt. He made pancakes for everyone that morning and so he had a little bit of a mess going. He has had this idea that when he moves out and is on his own, he won't know what to do. So, he has insisted on learning every single recipe and day-to-day task until that day! Lol. I love it! 

The kids are getting ready for this big event at school called the Hat Day Parade! Every student makes a hat and they parade them in front of the whole school and parents. This year's theme is When I Grow Up. 

Michael has decided to go with HERO! - I think by this he means military man.

Joshua is going with either scientist or football player. LOL

Alexandra has settled on Author/Illustrator and has since written 5 little books. ;)
Now if I can just figure out what I want to be...

Big Girls

She is definitely a handfull and I'm afraid my little princess is following in V's footsteps:)

You know, my boys are most definitely boys. They make messes and play rough, but they mostly follow the rules. They stay within the invisible boundaries I set for them.

Little Miss is something else! Her desire to be independent grows exponentially each day. She is determined to do everything on her own. Yesterday I tried to help her get out of the shopping cart. Of course she struggled with me and I ended up catching her on the way down. Completely without fear, she was yelling to "put me down; I can do it myself!" before I had set her feet to the ground.

Well today she was getting a little snotty. She had climbed onto the table and refused to get down. So, as any good mother would do, I stuck my finger in front of her little nose and said "Get down now, or you will have a time out!" She looked at my eyes, then at my finger, and then licked it! Then proceeded to get down from the table. I know she did what I asked, but the whole thing felt like she was saying, "Well, I'll get down, not because you asked, but because I was getting down anyway... this thing is so over anyway, mom!"

More than just arachniphobia!

Most girls are scared of bugs, or at least spiders. I am quickly learning that Alex's fear goes far beyond the norm... or at least beyond what I expected from her! Having two boys, I hadn't really gone through the "I'm terrified of everything" phase. Little Miss, however, is scared of everything from sirens outside to ants. No really, she actually couldn't go outside with her brothers today because there was an ant on the back door. I tried to help, but she is in "do it myself" mode too. So instead, she ran and got a chair, pulled it over to the fridge. (We keep a fly swatter between the fridge and wall.) By the time she had the chair put away and got back to the door... Huge GASP, "Oh mommy! It's gone!!!" It took some convincing for her to believe that the ant was not hiding, but had left and didn't want to eat her:) I won't tell you what she does when I have to vaccuum...

Alex told me before bed tonight that she wants to wear her skirt tomorrow... like a teenager. No joke, she said her skirt was like a teenager skirt and she will wear it and be like a teenager. Wow, I wasn't ready for that! Maybe tomorrow she'll teach me what all those little im abbreviations mean...
